Ok so as some of you may know I am a huge fan of the UTG MK96. It is a relatively inexpensive bolt action rifle that has great potential out of the box. Now shooting it completely stock without any modifications may leave alot to be desired. But sniping in airsoft can be a HUGE money sink if you want an amazing rifle. However there are ways to dramatically improve the rifle's performance without breaking the bank. I won't go into detail on them here, for the sake of the length of the post.(If you would like some more information on some DIY mods for Bolt action rifles pm me). I have spent around roughly $200 on this rifle and I must say right now it is surpassing the old L96 I used to use. I also did some exterior modification to it as well. Needless to say I am very excited to use it in a game. Here are some Before and after shots ;D ;D ;D

Have you been able to test it? I'm working on a Tokyo Marui Vsr-10 and its going to take me at least a year to get it where it is the best it can possibly be. Shopping List: PDI V-Trigger, PDI Precision Cylinder Set HD, PDI 250% spring, PDI Hop-Up unit w/ bucking, and PDI 6.01 barrel for hop up unit. Total Cost: A Metric Ton I estimate it will be able to take accurate shots at 250ft+ Unfortunetly I can't get into the cylinder to do any mods while I'm waiting for money since I'd need a drill with a bit made to go through metal because the gun has a small stainless steel bar that needs removed to get to the internals of the cylinder.

as far as how hot it shoots, I'm not sure yet. I haven't chronoed it. I did install the upgraded spring, spring guide, and piston from UTG, so that would up the fps a good amount, but then i recently switched to .4g BBs for accuracy so I know the fps is going to drop quite a bit there. However my accuracy is dramatically increased and thats what matters more to me than fps.

Awesome! I'm glad we have someone who'll play the sniper role. We neeed one in a bad way. At Wounded Warrior this past weekend there was a GREAT sniper on the tan team. took 2 of us out at a solid 225'+. Thanks to Boyscout for pointing him out (i.e. "You see that small shadow by that barricade?" "Where?" "There!" "Hit") Was gonna talk to him but never found him during breaks

Would be nice having some snipers being able to communicate to the rest of the team for calling out enemy positions.

Man maybe I should have got a L96. I just found all the PDI upgrade parts for L96 rifles and for some reason they are cheaper then the vsr-10 line of parts. Oh well, I'll just stick with my TM VSR-10.

lol. I've always had a thing for the L96. Mainly just because of how it looks visually but its a pretty solid airsoft rifle as well. Plus all the pdi/laylax upgrades can be used in the cheaper clone models.

what about the A&K dragunov? i've never liked ak's or any Russian weapon for that matter but the dragunov has always caught my eye. they make an electric and a spring version. but for American Snipers I'd have to go with the M14. they too are spring or electric, i like the styles of both of these guns the hard choice for me is being electric or spring. i know the pros and cons of each, i've had my Mauser for awhile now and would like to try an electric sniper. any advice?

i was going to get an M14 a while back. I was gonna get the aeg version because its always nice to be able to switch to full auto if you get outgunned. But In the end I'm more of a bolt action kinda guy lol
