hi, i live in north east ft. wayne and have been recently looking into airsoft as a cheaper alternative to paintball. i have been paintballing for over ten years and have played abput every variation there is, even ran a tournament team for a couple of years. my problem is i know what type of gun i want but not what brand to get. budget is really tight so cost is a big factor. i am after a m4, preferably metal body as i would like it to be as close to real world weight. also, i love to tinker so upgrade-ability is also a must.
look forward to coming out sometime this spring. are there any costs involved other than the obvious one of bb's?

no costs... just BB's. try the "JG" brand of AEG, they are a good, AFORDABLE gun, and they make a lot of varyants of the M4... should be in the 100/150 range... as far as a metal M4 goes, I would say look into the G&G brand, they have a good reputation, , it will be my best gun when i get it back... there are a couple for sale in our classifieds on this forum... i know there is a "DBOYS" M4 that "poser" is wanting to sell, and i think he said it was an all metal one... I personaly own 3 JG m4's... all are a plastic reciever, 2 are the "S-system" that have the sir rail across the top of the whole top...

My advice to you is to come out to the feild a couple of times, Im sure some of the guys would let you use a gun or three, put some weapons in your hands and see what you like. I have a G36C[JG] and a M4[DBOYS] you can check both of them out for a round or two. Once you do that then you can take your time to buy the right gun.. Welcome aboard...

suggestion... whatever gun you get, get an INTELLECT battery !!! they are the best, and for an easy upgrade, go from a 8.4 battery [stock], to a 9.6 one... it will increase your rate of fire and last longer. try to get as much "mah" that will fit in whatever gun you get... get rid of the cheap charger you may get with the gun [some guns come with a cheap charger that never shuts off, YOU have to keep an eye on it], i use a "smart charger" that costs like 25.00 or something like that... it knows when the battery is done charging and puts itself on trickle charge when finished so ya dont burn up the battery. also has a red light [charging], and a green light [done charging]... it will make things easier for ya...

i see that this new guy needs to stop staring at the keyboard and look at what he's typing! thanks for the help so far everyone. i regret that i will def not be able to make it out this week as i have a paintball tourney on saturday and there is just no way the wife is going to let me ignore working around the house two days in a row!
as far as borrowing and trying out a couple guns i thank everyone for the sentiment but unfortunately i have this bad habit of not being very patient, especially when a new toy is involved. what i am really leaning towards are a couple of dboys m4's i found on ebay, are there aany reason i should or should not take these off of my list? i checked out the one poser has and it's just not quite setup the way i want.(did i mention i'm a little picky about my toys as well as impatient?)

i was told the DBOYS are "upgradable" like all of the rest... youre looking for a "metal gearbox" and "TM capatable" as far as being able to get parts to upgrade with... [TM is tokyo marui..]. alot of the airsoft guns are "cloned" from the tokyo marui line of guns. TM's are expensive and because of the strict laws in japan, they shoot around the 300fps mark, where in the U.S., most clones shoot from 350/400 fps out of the box [without doin any upgrades]

Go to airsoftgi.com and just look at what they have to offer, the problem with guns off ebay is you never know what you are gonna get. At airsoft gi you'll get great customer service and free shipping when you spend over a $100. Oh yeah call them before you order online, they will give you a discount code. Happy shopping...

"Listing Not Available"
If I were you I would buy a brand new gun instead of one that has already been used, but thats just my opinion.

well, im laid off, 25 years in welding/fabrication/maintenance... so... i have nothing else to do but play around on this thing... haha. i dont think id get that Classic Army either... check on what the FPS is... but still, you can get screwed real easy... at least if your goin to buy off of one of us, we can let you use it for a game of something like that to see if it works for ya. and we're here to help if something is wrong with any gun ya get... just stay with a "TM clone" and youll be happy.
