my thoughts were...why put a base in the valley surrounded by high ground. I have always heard, the easiest ground to defend is the high ground. Makes you wonder who picked that sight as a base. Also where was the overwatch and outposts to keep them from being surprised by a attack???

Those questions are a given...... if you notice a lot of videos they are surrounded by high ground or they drive down the same road time and time again at the same times so I just stopped asking.. remember.. its the military .. HOWEVER-------- crappy as it may be how many enemy were taken out .... I thirst for Jihad blood.. I want numbers.

my thoughts were...why put a base in the valley surrounded by high ground. I have always heard, the easiest ground to defend is the high ground. Makes you wonder who picked that sight as a base. Also where was the overwatch and outposts to keep them from being surprised by a attack??? I agree, high ground is always easier to hold. However, sometimes fate or life, you choose, does not give us that. Since we dont have a map or know the geography well enough, its hard to speculate why that post was guarded and with only minimal troops. From the video, I can see supply huts and storage units, so I suppose it is either a forward post for intel gathering OR a resupply point. The latter, being hard to defend in a valley unless they had motor or artillery points around the town. Also, it is a mountainous area, so very few spots will be ideal defense. There will always be a point HIGHER, unless its on top of a mountain, and then why would anyone build a town there?? Still... I think you got some good questions there, and the media did a piss poor job reporting the information. As ferratus said, how many rag-heads were wounded or killed? what was the militaries media release on this fight? was info ever released? what was the purpose of the military occupation of the town? Must have been a reason, or the troops would have retreated.

One more thing that just pisses me off...
Simply put .. even the reporter says 150 Hadji's against 24 of our soldiers 12 US and 12 ANA ....... hmmm interesting....... and yet instead of the headline reading 24 soldiers repel attack by 150 Taliban it reads........attack that killed 9 us soldiers..
Makes me sick... I point back to Pat Dollard and the New york times......
