Airsoft Version: G&G GR-16 R4 Commando
Real Version: M4A1 Carbine
Manufacture: G&G
Type: AEG
Gearbox: Metal
Velocity: Chronoed by Kyle’s Chrono, 367 FPS with .20 BB
ROF: hell of a lot.
TBB: Yes, 6.04
Price: $320 from ASGI.
Metal Pieces: The entire gun, besides the Pistol Grip and Stock.
Package Includes: Gun, Vertical Foregrip, cleaning/unjamming rod, Front sight adjustment tool, manual, some other tool, 2 rail covers, and a 450rd Hicap magazine (full metal).
Packaging
When I first opened the brown package I was greeted by a very colorful box. I thought this was a nice finishing touch by the company. The box looks nice compared to other companies that just put your guns in a carboard box.
After I opened the box, I see a grey colored Styrofoam which was unusual. it also had G&G ARMAMENT sketched into it. In the box the gun, magazine, tools, etc fit nice and snug in. You could almost mistake it for the real thing. Minus the orange tip of course.
Manual:
I really like it. It actually has only English.
Reliablility:
Well we've all heard Curt's horror stories with his G&G but mine has been nothing but good to me. Also, Koyote and Reaper have G&G AEGs and havent had any problems ( I think...). Well besides when Reaper smacked his gun into a tree and knocked the magnets out of his motor...
Looks:
The gun looks beautiful; with it being full metal it looks very realistic, minus the orange flash hider of course. My dad actually wants to put the G&Gs rail system on are real MP-15. Same with the sight, dang get your own dad…
By the way, the gun isn’t that shiny. Its just the camera flash.
You can also take the flash hider off fairly easy. I believe it has a 14mm CC thread.
Stock and Buffer tube:
The Buffer tube does what it’s supposed to do and doesn’t seem to have any wobble. Full metal, and houses the wiring for the gun.
The Crane stock is very nice and comfortable, and it is made out of a plastic. It has rubber on the end of it, which is very nice. This type of stock allows you to use certain batteries. The gun can take a 9.6v stock, and has a great ROF with it. Unfortunately it’s a pain in the butt to put the battery in. Its do-able but wouldn’t be fun to change in a firefight.
Batteries:
I really like using the 9.6v 2000 by Intellect. Can’t remember what its called. Here are some batteries that will fit in the Crane Stock. Fits fairly easily.
Fire Selector Switch:
Metal, does what it’s suppose to do. The switch clicks in to place. It has Safety, Semi, and Auto.
Pistol Grip and Trigger:
The pistol grip houses the motor. It is plastic, but feels very comfortable.
The Trigger is metal, and very nice. It has a nice pull for the trigger and has a nice trigger response. It reminds me of the MP-15. (AR-15 variant.)
Charging Handle, Dust Cover, Hop-up:
The charging handle is full metal, and can be pulled back. However this does not flip down the dust cover. This is also metal and covers the hop-up.
The Hop-Up is nice, but is not the easiest to adjust.
Here you can see that pulling the charging handle does nothing.
Here you can see where the hop up is located.
Magazine/Magwell:
The magazine which comes with the gun is full metal, hicap which holds, maybe around 300-450 rds. It doesn’t feed that good as well. It feeds fine in semi auto, but isn’t that good in full auto.
I have tried many mags and here is a list of which works and what doesn’t.
Echo 1 VN 20rd mag: You have to really push it in to click into place, haven’t tried shooting it yet.
G&G 79rd Full Metal Midcaps: Just throw your money away. It fits nice, but when I shot it. A lot of bbs only went around 10-20 feet. Just doesn’t feed well. Maybe its just mine though.
JG Hicap: Feeds good, fits nicely.
MAG 130rd Midcaps: Work the best, I highly recommend them!
Mags in order: Echo 1 VN, G&G Hicap (included with gun), MAG Midcap, JG Hicap, and then the G&G Midcap.
Trades:
On the right side of the magwell it says. “G&G ARMAMENT MADE IN TAIWAN”
Left Side: It has a Special Forces logo with “United States” “Special Forces” “Cal.Multi” “G089558”
Near the Fire Selector Switch it says “COMPLETE A.E.G. SERIES MFG. BY G&G ARMAMENT MADE IN TAIWAN”
Some bad pictures of the Trades are near the bottom of the review.
Rails:
All metal, and have nice labels on them. Like B22 for bottom rails, T for top, L for left, and R for right. Their are no trades like this on the rails on the main body of the rifle. These are great for adding accessories. I added some UTG Covers on them just for grip, looks, and I really just like them.
Sights:
You get a detachable rear sight, which on ASGI is priced at around $72. Here are some pics. The rear is full adjustable and metal. Same with the front also has a tool to adjust it.
Accuracy:
I haven't really tried tests yet, but I'll edit in once I do.
For stock its really nice. Since its shooting 367FPS. .25s grams are easily able to use. To increase accuracy you might want to get a better tight bore barrel, and a new hop up bucking or a brand new hop up assembly. Depending on which brand you like, and how much you want to spend.
Other:
The metal on the body is nice, because it doesn’t seem to rust. Little Bit of barrel wobble. I fixed this with the MadBull V1 RAS Fix.
Also, just the changing of the sights make this gun look so much different. Here is what it looks like with an EO Tech 551 Replica, UTG side rail covers, Echo 1 VN 20rd mag, Mad Bull RAS Fix, Bi-pod, vertical fore grip, and mock suppressor.
Upgrades:
Really, the gun is absolutly great stock. Adding a tighbore barrel and better hop-up bucking will give you better range and accuracy of course. I will be keeping mine stock until it dies on me, which hopefully won't be anytime soon. Also, it does have a great rate of fire stock. You of couse can get better gears for more ROF.
All in all it’s a GREAT gun and I love it.
Pros:
ROF
FPS
Price
Full Metal
Threaded Barrel
Ability to customize
Rails
Crane Stock
Pistol Grip
Fire Selector Switch
Sights
Hop-up
Seems to be a great gearbox
The Vertical fore grip is nice
Cons:
Slight barrel wobble.
Crane stock might be a pain.
Magazine. Works good in Semi though.
Price
Doesn't come with a battery and charger, unless you pay an extra $30. I would suggest just buying a Intellect 9.6v 2000Mah instead.
Final Thoughts and Conclusions:
If you have the money. I would recommend this gun, mainly to the more experienced though. This could be a great starter gun though. It is big enough for outdoor use while it is small enough for CQB. I would suggest that if you are planning to buy this gun, I would suggest that you read more about it in reviews from airsoft forums and youtube. If you are going to get it though, here is what I recommend: Skip the package deal. Buy a Smart Charger, a 9.6v 2000 MaH battery, MAG Midcaps, and a Madbull RAS Fix v1. Of course though you will be ABSOLUTLY FINE with just the Started Kit version. The items listed are just what I have with mine.
This is my favorite gun. Clones are great, but this thing is just awesome.
With its siblings:
G&G GR-16 R4 Commando, Tokyo Marui MP7A1, Echo 1 Phantom II, Echo 1 G36c, and HFC M9.
