Hey guys,
I'm Jeremy (everybody calls me "J") from Auburn (Butler in my younger days) 37 years old.
So I have been kicking around the idea of getting back into tactical sports for some time now. I was an avid paintballer back in the 1991 - 1995 era that only ended because our home field (Paintball Park in New Haven) was closed down. I played on the field sponsored team and all that noise, marshaled games and so on. I just absolutely loved the game. If I wasn't at school, I was at the field.
Spin up to now and I find myself getting the "bug" like days of old. This time however, I find airsoft has picked up popularity immensely. Back when I was painting, airsoft was still almost exclusively an Asian sport and little was known of it in these parts.
It strikes me as a much more.... mature game and I'm fairly certain I want to take the dive. Dr. Souder has been on my case about more exercise, so the shoe fits.
With it being this late in the year, I'll assume the season is pretty much wrapped till spring. Which is perfect in my case as I want to go about putting my kit together over the next couple months.
Something I would like to get some feedback on however. It seems kind of difficult to get a "pulse" on the game in this area. How is your turnout on an average Sunday? Is there a decent influx of new players coming through? Does your group regularly carpool to other fields?
I ask mostly because while airsoft is a fairly inexpensive past time, it does have a fairly substantial initial price tag if you want to go with quality gear from the onset. I'd just hate to dump a couple grand into a kit and find out that games / fields are few and far between.
Regardless, I'll most certainly be seeing you gents out there in the near future.
