Being as how i've had a 249 for about a year now I figure it's time I write up a small review of the gun since i've used it more then any of my other guns.
Heres a little information on the real steel
The M249 squad automatic weapon (SAW), formally Squad Automatic Weapon, 5.56mm, M249 is an American version of the FN Minimi manufactured in the United States and used by all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. The gun was introduced in 1984, judged the most effective weapon to address the lack of automatic firepower in small units. It was the only one of a number of candidate designs to successfully pass tests. Tactically, it is employed at squad level and is operated by a designated automatic rifleman. The gun provides the heavy volume of fire of a machine gun with accuracy approaching that of a rifle.
The M249 is gas-operated and air-cooled. It has a quick-change barrel so that an overheated or jammed barrel may be rapidly replaced by the gunner. A folding bipod is attached near the front of the gun, though a heavy fixed tripod is also issued to gunners. The Marine Corps is currently considering designs for an infantry automatic rifle, which is planned to complement and partially replace the M249 in their service
Now, unlike it's real steel brother this gun weights in at a heavy 15lb and yes thats with a full box magazine and 9.6V 2000 MAH battery. I can honestly that is one of the few cons of this beastly gun. Because carrying a 15lb gun for about four hours can really get to you. Any way Being how this is a support gun it can only go full auto there is no semi-automatic function, but why would you want a LMG in semi any way?
Being a LMG it has a very high rate of fire to her about 18 balls per second at about 330 fps, it use to be at 350 fps but i've shot it so much the spring proably needs replaced.
One thing that does looked into is the hop up they just don't seem to last too long then again it's full auto all the time so you can expect parts to wear down...but with that the hopup is very eaisy to replace just slide the outter and inner barrel out and you can switch out the hopups.
Being how Echo 1 is they thankfully add a 2500 box magazine and a 8.4V 1100 MAH battery with the gun so you can use it right when you get it.
All and all I highly suggest the 249 PARA if you want to play the role of a Support gunner.
